POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a candidate to join our team in advancing our core banking operations through automation and technology. Under general supervision, the Associate Software Engineer will leverage his/her knowledge of the capabilities of our core banking system (Symitar) and related PowerOn programming, standard batch programming options, forms and parameter settings to support end users with the design, development, and modification of Symitar PowerOn programs to enable workflow automation and process improvement. S/He will work closely with the Technical Business Analyst and end users to deliver quality work that improves efficiencies and that enhance the Member experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Perform application design, development and maintenance activities supporting our core banking platform (e.g., PowerOn programs including Symforms, batch reports and SymXchange) and other enterprise applications.
  • Partner with Technical Business Analyst and business subject matter experts to translate business requirements into technical solutions while applying technical knowledge and strong business acumen.
  • Participate in continuous and incremental refactoring efforts through the code review process with other Software Engineers.
  • Develop and maintain engineering specifications for software programs and applications.
  • Participate in efforts to share technology expertise and train / mentor others in the use of technologies and development processes.
  • Collaborate with IT team to troubleshoot complex problems, support issue resolution and provide after-hours production support as needed.
  • Utilize technology to streamline processes at every opportunity while improving organizational efficiencies.
  • Assess requirements specifications, and provide accurate level of effort estimates.
  • Apply knowledge of industry trends and developments to improve service.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/ Training/ Education:
  • 1+ years of experience as an Application Developer with hands-on experience developing, integrating and supporting core banking application (Symitar / RepGen / PowerOn).
  • Must have strong software development skills (design, implementation, and testing) and be able to adopt new programming languages quickly.
  • Good understanding of Agile software development and DevSecOps practices.
  • Working knowledge of code repository and version control (such as Git).
  • Ability to solve complex requirements with straight forward, elegant solutions.
  • Knowledge of development platform / programming languages such as .NET, C#, JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React) highly preferred.
  • Working experience of integration framework / architecture such as API, micro-services (REST / SOAP or JSON / XML) preferred.
  • Some relational database experience is a plus (such as Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Experience in a financial institution is a plus.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of state and federal regulations as they relate to credit union.
  • Knowledge of credit union rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing and excellent telephone manner.
  • Ability to speak and hear to give and receive instructions and information to others in person and over the telephone. Other language skills helpful.
  • Intermediate to advanced personal computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft programs and other leading business/collaboration tools.
  • Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate reliable records.
  • Good memory, knowledge retention skills, and ability to multi-task, prioritize projects and duties effectively.
  • Excellent follow-through skills, member relations skills, and sound business judgment.
  • Ability to interface in with others in a positive and professional manner.
  • Goal-oriented with a desire to work in a fast-paced and results-driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed when necessary as well as the ability to work and accomplish goals in a team environment.

Physical and Environmental Elements:
  • Vision sufficient to read instructions, procedures, source documents, reports, files, and information on video display terminals.
  • Manual dexterity to write and operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer.
  • Body mobility to move to and from different work areas to access materials to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to bend and stoop to reach files/shelves including the strength to lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds, also to pull and push open file cabinet drawers. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule; this may include evenings, early morning, and weekends at times.


The targeted hourly range is $36.55 - $54.83. Final offer will be determined based on experience, education, training/certifications and specialized skills.
