Class A CDL OTR Driver


Classification: Hourly

POSITION OVERVIEW:


Over the Road Truck Drivers are responsible for operating various tractor-trailer combinations &
unloading at customer location for extended periods of time, over long distances between
company/customer facilities in order to deliver Flexsteel Furniture in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
Over the Road Truck Drivers are subject to the Hours of Service Regulations of the United States
Department of Transportation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recognizes and values customers and fellow associates by:

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required in accordance with the department and/or route
schedule or as directed by Supervisor.
  • Conforms to the dress code, the workspace, and the building guidelines, as well as all other company
policies.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all federal,
state, and local regulations for the secure and safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
  • Possesses good judgment when performing the functions of the job, including:
o operating a CMV in a safe and lawful manner


o handling the customer’s freight safely, securely and efficiently


o communicating professionally with those person’s with whom the employee will be in
contact as a company representative
  • Unloads furniture from trailer, in a safe and proficient manner, with the assistants from other
facilities, using freight handling equipment similar to a two-wheel cart.,
  • Communicates with Dispatch/Operations, in person or by way of QualComm, or telephone, in order
to advise of movements, problems with equipment, cargo, delays, add ladder and drop cushions
commercial motor vehicle as demonstrated by a current medical examiner’s certificate.
  • Perform other general duties as assigned by the Traffic Manager

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Possess a current and valid Class A Commercial driver license and DOT Medical Certification
  • General computer skills
  • Ability to execute the established standard operating procedures
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English – verbal and written instructions, procedures,
traffic signs, communication with law enforcement, and shipping records.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Minimum of two (2) years Class A CDL driving experience
  • No more than 3 points on driving record in the past 3 years
  • Customer Service focused

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment as directed
  • Position requires heavy lifting and carrying capabilities (46-75 lbs), and moderate lifting over
shoulder height (25-45 lbs) and will occasionally require very heavy lifts (76-100lbs).
  • Pushes items weighing up to 250 pounds for a distance of 10 to 15 feet and frequently pulls those
items for a distance of approximately 3 feet. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance
from others for items heavier than 50 pounds.
  • Manually manipulate up to 250 pounds occasionally to or from a hand cart, dahly, pallet, equipment
or trailer/container.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled tractor with occasional exposure to fluctuating temperatures,
as impacted by the weather
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

performed while operating a tractor -trailer with climate control. This job is also performed in a non-air-
conditioned environment, where the candidate may occasionally be exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and
noise.
Work will require the associate to wear personal protective equipment as directed and adhere to all
facility environmental, safety and health rules and requirements.
