The Lead Software Engineer will provide their mastery PHP skills to help design, implement and support features for our Billtrust Invoicing product. As a technical leader on an Agile team, you will use your experience and knowledge to help guide the team in designing, developing and delivering quality, scalable SaaS products that meet current needs and anticipate future business requirements. This position interfaces with internal teams, such as Product, Quality and DevOps, to help bring our codebase to a modern, testable, maintainable platform. This role will work closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and help translate into technical requirements for the development team. The Lead Software Engineer is also responsible for advising on tools and technologies to evolve our development organization in areas such as unit testing, R&D innovation, API design, CI/CD, and software performance.
- Work with an experienced team leveraging Scrum techniques building customer-facing products
- Design, code, test, and support both UI and backend services
- Write automated unit tests
- Create software designs that consider both current and possible future requirements with a DevOps mindset that will scale as our volumes increase
- Drive the design of systems with direct hands on code contribution of frontend and backend services with performance, scalability, and security built in
- Obtain comprehensive product level understanding so can collaborate with stakeholders to understand project requirements and document technical specifications for features or system design
- You are a good mentor & coach and possess good communication skills and work closely with junior team members to mentor them and help them improve their skills
- Explain technical concepts to both tech and non-tech audiences
- Effectively communicate the principles of good software development and design to the team, as well as the practices being used in the coding process and their benefits.
- Problem-solving skills to help test and debug code and assist other team members with any challenges or setbacks they encounter
- Continuously work with the team to keep tasks on schedule to meet commitments.
- Mastery of PHP and Laravel framework
- Strong ability to design and implement REST APIs
- Proficiency in HTML5, CSS/Sass, Angular/Javascript and other web technologies
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience), along with a firm understanding of data structures and scalable software design
- Proven success in designing, coding and implementing scalable SaaS systems in a fast-paced, product-centric environment – 7+ years of relevant experience, at least 2 years in SaaS
- Experience coding enterprise systems at scale
- Understanding of Agile techniques
- Knowledge of testable application design principles, utilizing Karma, NUnit or similar
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases, such as SQL Server or MySQL
- Proficiency in multiple persistence technologies such as relational databases, NoSQL, indexed files, etc.
- Proficiency in building behavior-driven development tests for desired business behavior
- Well-honed skills in source control management using Git or similar
- Experience in AWS, Azure or a similar cloud platform
- Proven success in mentoring less experienced developers
- Proven success collaborating with stakeholders and the team to document and implement solution designs that meet product requirements
- Experience working in an environment where you are multitasking between your coding tasks and helping others so that the team can achieve their sprint commitments
SALARY RANGE BELOW FOR COLORADO BASED APPLICANTS ONLY
Target Base Compensation: $145,000 - $190,000 (bonus offered in addition to base compensation)
