The Mission Planning and Execution Systems Section is looking for a Visualization and User Interface Software Engineer to join the User Interface Group. This group designs and develops innovative software systems and applications for planning, analyzing, and visualizing the activities of JPL's robotic spacecraft throughout the solar system. The chosen engineer will be responsible for developing, testing, upgrading, and maintaining software to support several efforts, including the operations of the Instrument Data Systems for the Mars 2020 (Perseverance) mission and the development of Augmented and Virtual Reality tools for interaction with three dimensional data. These projects use a variety of programming languages and technologies, including python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and C/C++ and C#. Responsibilities The engineer will: design, code, develop, and modify complex applications to access, visualize, and analyze scientific and engineering data develop, support, and maintain operational tools for downlink image processing develop and maintain WebXR and stand-alone AR/VR/XR applications for Microsoft Hololens, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and other XR headsets support tactical mission operations work independently on important assignments and projects with limited supervision Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related technical field with typically a minimum of 3 years of related experience, a Master’s degree in similar subject areas with a minimum of 1 year of related experience, or a Ph.D. Knowledge of high-level programming languages including C#, JavaScript, and Python Familiarity with fundamentals of web application development, including JavaScript frameworks such as React, server technology such as node.js, asynchronous communications via websocket, and usage and implementation of RESTful web services Experience working with a team of software developers on a shared code base using version control and issue tracking tools Experience working directly with customers and users to develop and Knowledge of image processing algorithms and code Familiarity or experience with spacecraft operations processes and paradigms Experience developing Unity applications for AR/VR headsets and web Desired Qualifications: Background in both the Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science subject areas.
