We are looking for a talented Sr. Embedded Software Engineer to join our organization as we develop safety critical software for medical devices that hundreds of thousands of people around the world depend on daily. You will work with a world-class team to meet users’ needs by developing innovative solutions and bringing them to market and will directly contribute to Medtronic’s mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life by being on the leading edge to bring closed-loop control to insulin-dependent diabetics across the world.

The embedded software engineering position will be member of our Software organization. You will be working in fast-paced cross-functional teams to develop embedded software and algorithms for automating insulin delivery therapies to maximize safety and minimize user burden. We’re looking for someone with knowledge in embedded software (proficiency in C, familiarity with RTOS and Embedded programming) to help us transform diabetes care around the world.

A Day in the Life

• Designs, develops, tests, debugs and implements operating systems components, software tools and utilities.
• Determines systems software design requirements.
• Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
• Generates systems software engineering policies, standards and procedures.
• Understand existing source code in Embedded C. Modify and add features in existing codebase.
• Debug hardware / firmware issues.
• Good understanding of software development tools like IDEs, repositories and unit test frameworks.
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, while continuing to grow knowledge in the field
• Use software management tools like version control/bug tracking and code review.
• Participate in documentation of features, defects and observations.
• Perform unit and integration tests to meet quality expectations. Understand appropriate verification practices and tools.
• Perform firmware/software integration testing and software validation testing.
• Work independently and provide different design tradeoffs and solutions. Take initiative to understand the role of the firmware in the system and make improvements to the requirements and the software.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software, electrical or other related engineering field with 4+ years of experience or an advanced degree with 2+ years of experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with ARM Core or similar.
• Proficient in embedded C
• Sound understanding of software engineering principles and processes.
• Familiar/experience with Oscilloscopes /Logic Analyzers.
• Common embedded communications protocols such as: SPI, I2C, UART
• Embedded processors, controllers and development tools: emulators, logic analyzers, scopes, stack analysis, static analysis tools, software version control.
• Signal Processing in Real Time software
• Great verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand business terms.
