About the Role
Harman Luxury Audio is seeking a talented, highly motivated, and dynamic acoustic engineer to join our product development team at our Northridge Acoustic Center of Excellence. As the Principal Acoustic Engineer, you will be performing the design and analysis of consumer loudspeaker systems to support the research and development of new product introduction (NPI). You will be leading all phases from concept to design activities and into mass production. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity, and strong problem-solving skills. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent analysis skills, advanced acoustic engineering experience, and a good understanding of consumer loudspeaker systems. Your Team
You will be reporting to the Director of Acoustics, Engineering.
What You Will Do
  • Design and develop complex acoustic systems, components, and assemblies for consumer loudspeaker applications using FEA, BEM, prototyping, and advanced engineering methods (e.g., Transducer, Network crossover development, Port design and tuning, and Cabinet specifications).
  • Define and test acoustic performance using the latest techniques.
  • Research new technologies and solutions and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility or application.
  • Create engineering documentation to support the definition, design, performance, and testing of loudspeaker products and technologies.
What You Need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in audio-related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience and 5+ years related acoustic engineering experience.
  • Thorough understanding of fundamental acoustic engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of analytical tools such as finite element analysis (FEA) methods, and other modeling and simulation tools for the design of acoustic devices such as COMSOL.
  • Background in applied acoustics such as loudspeaker design.
What is Nice to Have
  • Master’s Degree in Acoustic Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical degree.
  • 10 years of experience in loudspeaker design, modeling, and analysis.
  • 3 years of experience in designing active high-performance loudspeakers.
  • Proficiency in loudspeaker measurement techniques, methods, and equipment
  • Understanding and experience with sound system design, room acoustics, and system tuning fundamentals.
