MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES
As Sr. Systems Administrator, Lead within STAAR Surgical’s Information Technology Operations team, this individual plays a critical role working closely with the business and across the Information Technology organization defining, delivering and supporting IT technical solutions and supporting roadmaps.
- Performs maintenance on existing operating systems and hardware.
- Evaluates, engineers, tests, recommends, and implements secure personal computing and peripheral solutions.
- Acts as a resource for system escalation issues.
- Documents platforms and processes for ongoing operations.
- Gathers business requirements for system design.
- Researches and develops future technologies.
- Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately.
- Investigates and resolves system problems and system performance.
- Schedules and coordinates installation and maintenance of software/hardware on the network and ensures compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software.
- Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures.
- Provides ongoing information to leadership, customers, and peers regarding enhancements, innovations and solutions.
- Responsible for following company specific standards.
- Responsible for generating and communicating personal compute device metrics.
- Plans and coordinates with various cross-functional teams and vendors to ensure present and future capacity/scalability.
- Subject matter expert for specific technology and/or process.
- Ensures that improvements in and/or changes to operations are implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
- Acts as a source for direction, training, and guidance for less experienced systems engineers.
- Instructs, directs, assigns, and oversees the work of other less senior systems engineers.
- Reviews, prioritizes and recommends improvements as they relate to the achievement of STAAR Surgical's short and long- term business goals and objectives.
- Builds relationships with customers to improve services and ensure service levels are being met.
REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate degree and 8+ years relevant experience or Graduate degree and 6-8 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

- Must possess excellent facilitation and communication skills, and able to adapt to the level and nature of their audience.
- Advanced proficiency in PC administration (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.).
- Proficiency in cloud based XaaS technologies (e.g., Amazon, Azure, Exchange Office365, etc.) including engineering and implementing public and hybrid solutions that take into account: Extending corporate AD networks, CASB, VPN/Firewalls, CDN, DNS Acceleration, Storage, dynamic provisioning of resources, and cloud management/governance.
- Advanced knowledge and adaptation of emerging technologies and frameworks to reduce costs, effort and maintenance.
- Ability to communicate in Japanese and/or Mandarin is a plus.
