UX Designer 2, Design Language System @ Nordstrom Inc - Los Angeles, CA

Job Description

The Design Language System team is building a platform that enables internal teams to build scalable, accessible applications for our customers and employees. This includes a library of tools produced and released as code and design components to make the creation and adoption of products more cohesive, efficient, cost-effective and on-brand.

We are looking for a passionate UX Designer who is a problem-solving systems thinker who knows how to get things done. In this role, you will collaborate with a team of designers, technologists, and engineers and join our mission of elevating design language across product experiences at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. You will be responsible for inventing and delivering the core UX building blocks that allow our product teams to launch customer-focused solutions at scale. You will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to design, ship and maintain visual style, UX patterns and UI components for various device types, environments, and audiences, while ensuring consistency of the design language.

A day in the life…

• Design beautiful and accessible user interfaces and experiences, contributing to the design language system that supports Nordstroms digital properties
• Own the UX and visual design of individual Nordstrom UI components and interaction patterns across web, iOS, and Android platforms
• Create customer-centered solutions by considering user research, customer feedback and business metrics
• Directly contribute to design system guidelines documentation
• Collaborate with stakeholders across partner teams to increase adoption of our design system
• Anticipate how aspects of the system will be used by designers, developers, and product stakeholders
• Create prototypes to help communicate component behavior using industry standard prototyping tools
• Work alongside UX designers, writers, researchers, engineers, and product managers throughout all stages of the production cycle
• Effectively present work to partner teams and all levels of leadership

You own this if you have...

• You are a systems thinker – you can see how parts fit together and how small updates can propagate throughout the design system
• 4+ years’ experience in user interface design (information architecture, interaction design and visual design)
• Expertise with Sketch and Figma
• Experience contributing to or creating a design system
• Familiarity with the basics of front-end development for mobile or web (HTML/CSS/JS, React, etc.)
• A strong portfolio that demonstrates not only your stellar designs, but tells the story of your approach to problem-solving and your design process
• Expert knowledge of user interface design, interaction design, and visual design principles
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Ability to research and resolve issues using appropriate resources
• Demonstrated skill and experience creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-quality user interface designs for large and small screens (web & apps)
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills

California: $99,000-$172,500 annually; Colorado: $99,000-$153,500 annually; Nevada: $99,000-$153,500 annually; New York: $99,000-$172,500 annually; Rhode Island: $99,000-$153,500 annually; Washington: $99,000-$172,500 annually
