Software Engineer, Commerce @ Recurrent Ventures - Los Angeles, CA

The Opportunity:

We are looking for someone to join the growing Commerce team at Recurrent. In this role you will build, maintain, and optimize tools and services for the Commerce team, which spans across content, analytics, and revenue for all of Recurrent’s owned and operated websites.

Our team works across the entire stack that supports shopping content and other buying opportunities across our sites. We focus on execution, working quickly to meet our business’s needs while at the same time developing a framework for scalable, long term success. We’re building off of a mix of internally developed and external tools to find the best in class tech stack to support the 100s of millions of dollars of transactions that flow through our sites.

We are looking for an engineer who can assume responsibility for the various tools and platforms the Commerce team relies on. Your role will be to partner with executive and product leadership to help define our technical strategy using a blend of both internal and third party services. We are looking for technical analysis when making thoughtful decisions around where to build vs. partner with 3rd party tools.

A strong desire to learn and teach others is important.

This role will involve development of prototype applications and production code. It’s an excellent opportunity for a curious engineer who enjoys a mix of both theory and application in a fast growing and exciting space within digital media.

The Responsabilities:

• Build new features and systems with our Senior Product Manager for Commerce, using a combination of internally developed and third-party solutions.
• Help define product roadmaps with technical estimates for the Commerce team.
• Partner with our revenue and operations teams to deploy and scale services we build across Recurrent.
• Work with Commerce team leadership to develop a path to grow and build out this team as the business scales.

The Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, MIS, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Data Sciences, Economics, or Physics, or similar.
• 3-5 years of experience building at-scale systems, with a blend of front-end and backend experiences languages (JavaScript/NodeJS/React.js preferred, but not required), reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
• Experience in 2 of the following Database technologies: MySQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, RedShift, Postgres, Neo4J, Oracle, Hana, Snowflake, MsSQL.
• In depth knowledge in core design areas, including persistence, protocols, distributed systems, cloud architecture, and security.
• Knowledge of best practices for observability and instrumentation in a complex microservice environment.
• Excellent critical thinking and debugging skills.
• Experience working with data engineering teams to help stream data to analytical tools.
• A knowledge of how to scale experiments (hundreds of users) to scale readership (hundreds of thousands of users).

Bonus if you have:

• Industry experience in digital advertising, digital media, or affiliate marketing
• Experience in M&A, i.e. merging new technologies or engineering teams through acquisitions and integrating disparate systems and workflows into a unified ecosystem
