Graduate Medical Education (GME) is an important part of the hospital’s strategic plan to address the physician shortage in South Los Angeles. The hospital is currently transitioning from a community hospital to a teaching hospital with outside rotations which include residents and fellows from partnering institutions; Harbor UCLA and UCLA. The Internal Medicine Program started in 2022 as part of the Health System’s new Strategic Plan.

POSITION SUMMARY

The GME Recruitment (Program) Manager will lead recruitment efforts for the GME Department, ensuring highly qualified diverse candidates from the nation’s top medical schools with background and interests in serving safety net communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Recruit highly skilled and diverse residents for the MLKCH GME residency/fellowship programs.
• Implement comprehensive and strategic initiatives centered on diversity and inclusion in order to recruit high qualified diverse candidates.
• Improve recruitment of underrepresented in medicine learners into our residency/fellowship programs.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of recruitment needs.
• Implement a rigorous selection that screens for both academic eligibility and experience as well as cultural competence and commitment to serving patients within the community.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key personnel of identified medical schools.
• Plan and execute recruitment events, including informational sessions to educate medical professional and other key stakeholders about MLKCH and its GME programs.
• Travel to universities, hospitals, organizations, partners, fairs and events to engage and invite candidates to apply to the MLKCH GME residency/fellowship programs.
• Identify and establish a strong local presence for the programs through attending and presenting at events and building relationships with key community organizations and publications.
• Ensure data received from resident events are compiled into various reports.
• Utilize data to continuously improve marketing and recruitment outcomes.
• Develop appropriate marketing materials to present to medical students in collaboration with the Strategic Communication Department.
• Work in collaboration with the Strategic Communications Department to effectively manage the brand communication.
• Develop and maintain correspondence with medical students through their education.
• Manage and direct candidate inquiries about the program structure and requirements.
• Provide high-touch recruitment support to candidates to assist in the application and onboarding process.
• Participate in the interview season.
• Other duties, as assigned.
