Who You Are


You are an experienced Environmental Consultant with a minimum of 15 years of experience in growing and leading a team of highly qualified environmental professionals focused on energy-related projects. You have at least 10 years of experience targeting, procuring, and retaining new clients in the energy practice.


You have an inclusive mindset and a track record for showing your commitment to diversity, knowing that our differences contribute to our success. You are an effective team member and communicator who proactively identifies and contributes constructively to address broad project or team issues, providing mentoring to more junior staff, support others in reaching their growth initiatives, and increase staff exposure across the market sector.


You have successfully coordinated and collaborated with regional and corporate leaderships teams to develop and execute annual strategic market sector growth plans and client development action plans, then executed specific marketing strategies and implementation plans.


You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and have led and directed marketing and business development pursuits, including developing capture strategies and leading proposals, interviews, and presentations.


You hold a bachelor’s degree with major course work in a related environmental or interdisciplinary field.


What You Will Do for ESA


You will lead comprehensive strategic business development deepening relationships with established energy clients and broadening our client base to increase energy market penetration for all ESA business lines. The Energy Market Leader reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works directly with Regional Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, and Practice Leaders to accelerate ESA’s growth in this priority market.


As the Market Leader for the energy market, you will conduct research into market treads and lead the development of marketing strategies and tactics to achieve the long-term vision for the energy market sector.

You will drive the execution of the annual strategic action plan for the energy market to achieve cross-regional and cross-practice growth and development goals in support of ESA’s 5-year Strategic Plan.


You will be a financially astute and innovative problem solver and will achieve growth goals in sales and net revenue. You will identify key talent in the energy market and assist in recruitment and retention.


You will consistently demonstrate your enthusiasm, confidence, curiosity, and a strategic mindset. You will maintain a high professional and interpersonal standard and set a positive example for other employee-owners.


As Market Leader, you will travel to incorporate energy market business development tactics at all corners of the organization. You will identify and cultivate partnerships and teaming opportunities to achieve growth objectives.


As appropriate, you will serve as Client Service Manager for key clients and Project Principal for select projects.


You will thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines while working on a team or independently.


ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position the range is $164,108 – $246,161 or $185,683 – $278,524 annually based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by a number of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.
