Director of Staff Development

  • We are looking for an experienced Director of Staff Development to organize and oversee all Education operations of the facility. You will create a collaborative and efficient workplace with attention to quality standards and policies. There, all personnel will be able to do their best in caring for patients. A Director of Staff Development should have once been a hard-working and compassionate RN or LVN who steadily developed their managerial and administrative skills. Being efficient, dedicated, a good listener and a problem-solver is what will open our door for you. The goal is to foster an excellent environment that will support everyone in working to the benefit of the facility, employees and patients alike.

Accountability to: Executive Director/Director of HR
Accountability for:
  • The Director of Staff Development is assigned responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the educational component of the nursing care delivered to the residents.
  • Assures that all educational needs that are required by OBRA, Title 22 and DHS are met.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • The Director of Staff Development has no direct supervisory responsibility.
  • The Director of Staff Development does have oversight of C.N.A. performance.

requirements:
  • Must not have been found guilty of abusing, neglecting or mistreating residents in a health care setting.
  • Must have knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Must be free from illegal use of drugs and freedom from use of and effects from drug and alcohol use from the work place.
  • Must have a working knowledge of personal computer and software applications used in job functions (word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, etc.).
Language Skills:
  • Must have the ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Must have the ability to present information and respond to questions from Leadership, Individuals/Employees, and the public. .
  • Must remember that English is the language of choice in all of New Vista Facilities.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Must have been a Director of Staff Development experience in a LTC setting for 1-3 years (preferred)
  • Prefer to have Subacute and Rehabilitation nursing experience for at least 3 year
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the nursing process/assessment and license scope of practice.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to provide quality care with high acuity residents.
  • Communicates and works effectively with people
  • Must possess effective Leadership skills
  • Must have the ability to assess residents clinical, mental and spiritual needs
  • Must Exhibit a leadership role to all subordinate staff
  • Must Demonstrate initiative and utilize time efficiently
  • Provides annual in-service training to staff members (focus to be on the current needs in the facility)
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES
  • Must Possess current DSD Certification
  • Must possess current State RN/LVN License
  • Must maintain current CPR certification
  • Must maintain current fire safety certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Training and Staff Development Functions
  • Meets with personnel, as appropriate to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services
  • Encourages all staff members to try new techniques, equipment and materials by developing conferences, seminars, etc., using inside/outside professional services as necessary.
  • Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to department heads concerning in-service training programs.
  • Plans and directs the orientation of newly assigned staff personnel and promote professional upgrading of all personnel’s skills.
  • Develops and prepares, scheduling and selection of instructional equipment, training aids and materials, in order to provide an excellent in-service program
  • Assumes the authority, responsibility and accountability of maintaining the inservice training program.
  • Provides annual in-service training to all staff members concerning residents rights and confidentiality of resident information (HIPPA).
  • Ensure that the facility Orientation/Inservice programs are in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Customer Service
  • Must recognize that the resident/family is the #1 concern and take utmost care to provide service and resolve any concerns they may have in a timely manner.
  • Must recognize that the 1st care planning meeting is the most crucial in ensuring that customer service needs are being met.

  • Must have the ability to define and solve problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Is involved with Residents, Family Members, Personnel, Visitors, Government Agencies/Personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
  • Understands that at times residents, families and other staff may present a very negative attitude towards them.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel and other department supervisors and staff.
  • Maintains a Partnership with the Residents, their families, support personnel, etc., to assure that the residents’ needs are continually met.
Leadership
Creates the Monthly and Daily Nursing Schedule
  • Assists in developing the objectives, policies and procedures in each department to better serve the department heads, residents and families.
  • Performs administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, class attendance and subject records, etc.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed by the executive director.
  • Serves on various committees of the facility as directed.
  • Must have strong organizational and analytical skills; oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information to assure resident rights are protected.
  • Must have the ability to define and solve problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Communication
  • Provides personnel with training and information governing established policies and procedures concerning infection control and exposure to blood/body fluids.
  • Communicates the program in such a way to encourage staff participation and involvement.
  • Attends, participates in and evaluates workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes and teaching techniques in the health care field.
  • Attends outside training programs and activities which will add to your professional growth.
Financial Stewardship Responsibilities
  • Assists in formulating an in-service budget and be responsible and accountable for keeping within the budgetary guidelines (Spend-down sheets)
  • Comply with required staffing ratios and provide documentation to support the staffing.
Workers Compensation Functions:
  • Be first responder for the Workers Compensation Program in the facility.
  • In the facility, administer the risk management/safety programs.
  • Train facility personnel on policy and procedures of reporting and documenting incident/injury claims.
  • Investigate each injury/incident resident or employee and formulate a report to the Director of HR/Risk Management as well as facility executive director of the findings of the investigation.
  • Interface with facility clinic to ensure that all employees receive the care needed.
  • Communicate with the clinic physicians to ensure that they are kept informed of all information relating to the injured worker. To provide a timely return to work.
  • Communicate with the injured worker as appropriate to ensure that all of their needs are being met.
  • Report all new workers compensation incidents to the Director of HR/Risk Management within 24 hours.

  • Is able to pass employee physical prior to orientation
  • Must be emotionally Stable
  • Must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of an active position to include walking, sitting, standing and lifting
  • Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility and its’ premises.Sits, Stands, Bends and lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • May work flexible hours.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects.
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and HEP B viruses.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetic that will enable theses senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of Residents.
