MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES
As a Sr Network Engineer within STAAR Surgical’s Information Technology team, this individual plays a critical role working closely with the business and across the Information Technology organization defining, delivering and supporting IT business solutions and supporting roadmaps. In summary this position: establishes network standards, analyzes and resolves complex network related problems, analyzes and tests all elements of the network infrastructure and designs secure global networks and establishes standards based on business objectives.
- Defines network business requirements and implements effective global network strategies.
- Designs secure network solutions that maximize the sharing of applications, information, and resources across the company.
- Coordinates with multiple vendors/departments to procure network-related hardware, software, and services.
- Investigates and resolves problems, inefficiencies, and performance issues.
- Creates and shares roadmap and technical support to determine network business needs throughout the company.
- Evaluates, tests, recommends, and implements specific network solutions.
- Research emerging network technologies and makes recommendations based on future business needs.
- Schedules and coordinates installation and maintenance of standard software/hardware on the network and ensures compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software.
- Provides ongoing information to leadership, customers, and peers regarding health of the environment, enhancements, innovations and secure network solutions.
- Designs and manages global network infrastructure.
- Organizational expert within defined subject area.
- Integrates deep subject matter expertise with:
o In-depth knowledge of professional standards and trends within area of expertise.
o Relevant related disciplines.
o Business goals and strategy.
- Understands impact of emerging business trends and their implications for the company and its customers.
- Develops advanced/leading-edge technologies and/or concepts.
- Responsible for complex testing and analysis of all elements of the network facilities.
- Involved in developing, modifying and executing STAAR Surgical policies.
- May develop network standards for global adoption.
- Provides input for performance evaluations of less-experienced network engineers.
- Consistently provides guidance and project direction to less-experienced staff.
- Manages projects and motivates project team for continued attainment of business goals.
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of business/user community.
- Independently analyzes and provides innovative solutions to network engineering and design projects.
- Consistently applies business knowledge in the design of network systems.
- Conducts senior leader presentations.
- Ability to function as one of STAAR Surgical's top level technical experts.
- Ability to apply expert knowledge of network engineering to the most complex problems and to direct, train, and guide less experienced staff.
- Global networking experience.
REQUIREMENTS
- Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of relevant experience in similar Network Engineering role
- 12+ years of relevant experience in Information Technology

- Shapes long-term strategic direction and reputation of the company.
- Develops integrated business solutions across business units.

- Decisions are strategic in nature, have long-term consequence, and tend to relate to business strategy, financial performance, and effective resource utilization.
- Ensures solutions are aligned with current and future needs and expectations.
- Expert knowledge of TCP/IP and common routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, HSRP and QoS
- Expert knowledge of common LAN, WAN, WLAN and SD-WAN architectures and methodologies
- Expert knowledge of network security including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention, LAN segmentation and network access controls
- Proficient knowledge of public cloud hosting network features, strong preference given towards Microsoft’s Azure platform
- Experience with Fortinet, Aruba, Meraki a strong plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate in Japanese and/or Mandarin is a plus.
Pay range: $125k - $165k Final compensation/salary will depend on experience
