APPLICATION SOFTWARE ENGINEER II

We are seeking a Software Engineer II to help us build and maintain application software solutions throughout SpaceX. We are a team of flexible engineers, capable of engineering at any level of the stack, driving projects, guiding products, operating our environments, handling support, and thoroughly testing changes. We organize ourselves internally to best solve application and process issues to make the company more efficient and effective.
We are currently organized into the following groups:

  • The Design, Build, Launch program is responsible for software that accelerates Dragon, Falcon, and Starship production

  • The Starlink Constellation program is responsible for software that helps manage our satellite constellation and ground networks

  • The Starlink Consumer program is responsible for software that allows Starlink customers to get information about Starlink, order, track their shipment, and manage their account

  • The Starlink Manufacturing program is responsible for software that accelerates the production of hardware for the Starlink network

  • The Build Reliability program is responsible for software that ensures we build durable, high quality, predictable, and safe spacecraft


As a Software Engineer II, you will engage with other SpaceX engineers to discover the needs of the mission and write software to turn the objectives of that mission into reality. You will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of the software you maintain: planning, development, testing, and support.
The success of the missions at SpaceX depends on the software that you and your team produce. Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on a super inspiring mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Build highly reliable software solutions that are used across SpaceX

  • Invent new tools that improve how the business at SpaceX operates

  • Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews

  • Develop prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints

  • Own all aspects of software engineering and product development

  • Deep dive into your users' problems, find efficient solutions

  • Provide strong technical leadership, focus on continuous improvement

  • Seek out faults within our application suite and implement solutions to improve


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Programming experience in Python, C#.NET, Go, Java, or similar object oriented language

  • 4+ years of rigorous experience building single page web applications

  • Expertise in designing software systems

  • Expertise in testing and infrastructure

  • Expertise in profiling and improving application performance

  • Front-end experience in Angular, React, or similar Javascript framework

  • Database experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database technologies


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work long hours and weekends as needed for critical deadlines
