• AEROSPACE VEHICLE INSPECTOR SENIOR

SUMMARY:

• Develop inspection and test methods, under laboratory, developmental or production conditions, including first article. Utilize precision electromechanical and optical measuring equipment, industrial x-ray equipment, automated measuring systems to determine that tooling and aerospace vehicles including machined parts, mechanical structures, mechanical assemblies, electronic assemblies/subassemblies, microelectronic circuits, microwelds, optical assemblies, thermal control finishes, gas or hydraulically operated systems, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welds, solder and mechanical connections, battery system wiring/wire harnesses/routing and propulsion systems conform with engineering specifications, company quality standards and customer contract requirements. Verify proof load testing operations of tools and equipment for safety certification or conformance to design specifications. Set up test equipment and determine control settings. Perform interpretation and analysis to detect defects or unacceptable conditions. Performs complete and final inspection of all items being shipped for adherence to requirements, shipping documents, blueprints, proper packing and packaging methods.
  

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work from engineering drawings, schematics, sketches, blueprints, shipping documents, work orders, purchase orders, oral and written instructions, specifications and shop standards.
• Monitor all aerospace vehicles to insure that thermal, mechanical and electronic integrity is maintained.
• Set up, adjust, utilize measuring equipment required for evaluation of parts and assemblies, including but not limited to X-ray, optical, automated, electromechanical, and electronic precision measuring equipment/systems. Develop inspection plans specifying the inspection instruments to be utilized in determining that aerospace vehicles, tooling, shipping operations, x-ray pictures, and specific assemblies meet specification requirements to the most exacting tolerances and workmanship standards.
• Assist engineering in the preparation of inspection aids, alignment tools and acceptance standards.
• Determine methods by which the characteristics to be verified can be correlated to the requirements and tolerances of the item or process being inspected.
• Perform in-process, progressive and final inspections of space vehicles, tooling including items being shipped and/or received. Inspect and re-inspects, as necessary, machined parts, structures, mechanical assemblies, electronic assemblies/subassemblies, microwelds, optical assemblies, thermal control finished, gas or hydraulically operated systems, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welds, solder and mechanical connections, battery system wiring/wire harnesses/routing, shipping documents, packaging, packaging methods, propulsion systems and mechanical or optical alignments.
• Assist in the launch preparation of an aerospace vehicle which may require accompanying to launch site for launching. Perform surveys as required to insure compliance of safety and environmental controls. Complete and maintain forms and records required.
• Perform stamping on tooling equipment load testing tags after verifying that tooling has fulfilled all of the engineering requirements of load testing and inspection. Perform all progressive and final visual weld inspections of space vehicles and Ground Support Equipment tooling.
• Makes complete and final shipping inspection of all items. Checks and verifies shipping documents packing sheets for accuracy and presence of required certifications. Stamps or otherwise approves each shipment.
• Meets necessary certifications as requested or required.
