UX Designer (Remote Options)
$61,826 - $80,374 / year minimum starting salary

What You Will Be Doing:
We’re looking for a designer to join our team. We’ve been building awareness about the benefits of
design for several years, and are looking for people who want to help spread a
design thinking culture across our company.
In this role, you’ll primarily work on internal projects. You’ll be embedded onto a fully remote
agile team and collaborate closely with engineers while owning the experience of the team’s products. You’ll be responsible for doing research, sketching ideas, and creating beautiful prototypes. Then you’ll work with the engineers on your team to bring your vision to life!
You’ll also have opportunities to step outside your team and influence innovation and
design across Shelter. As part of the
design team, you’ll be given the autonomy and support to affect real change and improve the lives of our customers.
We’re looking for these minimum qualifications:

You get excited about solving complex problems and advocating for our customers.

You are inquisitive and a life-long learner. You take initiative on your own but aren’t afraid to ask for help when you need it.

You pay attention to details and speak up when something seems off.

Experience creating wireframes, journey maps, or other discovery deliverables.

Strong understanding of graphic design principles and a natural eye for design.

You are a strong communicator, especially written communication.

You thrive in collaborative environments and are a team player.

You consider yourself tech-savvy and you learn how to use new tools quickly.

Bachelor’s Degree in human factors, psychology, communications, journalism, design or other related fields or related experience in communication, customer service or design roles.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Strong candidates may also have these qualifications:

Experience interviewing people or conducting formal research.

Experience writing copy for digital platforms.

Experience with mobile-first responsive design or app design.

Very comfortable leading projects, presenting research findings publicly or advocating for new ideas.

Knowledgeable about web accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.1 standards).

Experience training others in design thinking, accessibility or other design related areas.

Experience building or working within design systems.

Experience with data analysis.

Enough technical knowledge to communicate easily with engineers (basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, API calls etc.).

Knowledge of the insurance industry, while maintaining the ability to innovate and push for change.

Experience working on an agile team.

Experience participating in or facilitating design sprints.

Our team and the teams they work with our are currently almost all remote with most living in Missouri/Central Time Zone.

We are headquartered in Columbia, MO and our core business hours are 8 am – 4:30 pm CST.

Flexible work schedules are available. Standard schedule covering 9 am – 3 pm CST is expected.

We are happy to have you in our Columbia, MO office whenever you'd like.

We do not hire in all states for remote work and are currently not able to hire in CA, NY and a few others.
