The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the shared services organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges located in Southern California. Today, TCCS is a nationally recognized educational model for academic support, student support and institutional support services to meet the needs of 6,300 students and 2,300 faculty and staff. Under general supervision, interviews, evaluates, and monitors clients, provides education, guidance and isolation/quarantine parameters based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, as well as The Claremont Colleges Services Student Health Services recommendations for those individuals who meet case definition for a confirmed, suspect, or probable case of a communicable disease. This is a temporary position, anticipated to continue through the academic year. Actual assignment timeline will be determined by COVID-19 activity on campus.

Essential Functions:
Conduct telephone calls with persons newly-diagnosed with COVID-19 or presumed to have COVID-19 to complete case interviews, elicit and trace contacts exposed to COVID-19

Provide follow-up instructions to cases and to contacts related to isolation/quarantine, symptom monitoring, and assess the need for supportive services

Identify barriers to necessary interventions and facilitate appropriate referrals, per protocols

Collaborate and coordinate with a team of health care professionals. Inform the team and supervisors when attempts to communicate with a contact are unsuccessful

Communicate with cases and contacts in a professional and empathetic manner

Collect and record information from the case interview/contact gathering into the data system

Follow approved scripts and protocols, provide people with approved information on state/local isolation and quarantine procedures, and if appropriate, refer them to testing according to protocol

Provide information on where to find other social, health resources using approved script/resource list by the Claremont Colleges

Maintain daily communication with their supervisor, as assigned

Obtain telephone consent for potential follow-up calls from the Claremont Colleges response team or other organizations offering support services.

Protect and maintain individual privacy and confidentiality

Participate in requisite trainings and regular contact tracing program meetings

Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent

Two years of related community experience.

Must provide evidence of complete COVID-19 vaccination within 30 calendar days of hire, unless a medical or, religious accommodation or, exemption is requested and granted.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in customer service or public facing position.

Health-related professional experience or public health training

Required Knowledge and Critical Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with people from cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds during a time of crisis and distress

Ability to show empathy and be nonjudgmental towards distressed individuals

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to make sound judgment on information received

Ability to research, investigate, and report cases of communicable disease outbreaks

Ability to evaluate and interpret epidemiological and statistical data pertaining to the control of communicable diseases

Ability to present information clearly and concisely orally and in writing

Ability to learn and become proficient in the methods of prevention and control of communicable diseases

Ability to use electronic databases and other computer software packages

An understanding of patient confidentiality (HIPAA, FERPA regulations), including the ability to conduct interviews without violating confidentiality (e.g., to those who might overhear their conversations)

Understanding of the medical terms and principles of exposure, infection, infectious period, potentially infectious interactions, symptoms of disease, pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic infection

Excellent and sensitive interpersonal, cultural sensitivity, and interviewing skills such that they can build and maintain trust with patients and contacts

Basic skills of crisis counseling, and the ability to confidently refer patients and contacts for further care if needed

Resourcefulness in locating patients and contacts who may be difficult to reach or reluctant to engage in conversation

Must possess the ability to speak, read, and write English

Required Hours: The shifts for this full time temporary position will rotate within the hours of contact tracing operating hours. Hours of operation are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturdays-Sundays. Schedules will rotate within the hours of operation. Weekend and evening work hours will be required, holidays may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.
