VP Software Engineering
LightBox Employer L L C - Carlsbad, CA
Position Overview:
LightBox is a data and workflow provider for the commercial real estate (CRE) industry that has supported buyers, brokers, lenders, appraisers, environmental professionals, etc. in over $3 trillion in CRE transactions through its industry-respected brands over the last two decades. Recently, LightBox launched its new Data Platform, which ingests over ten thousand datasets, connects over five billion data objects, and powers over fifty billion insights per year, and now LightBox is moving up the stack to deliver a unified next-generation web experience for the industry – and it needs a strong engineering leader to lead the charge!
The Vice President, Engineering (Client Platform) shall lead the software engineering organization at LightBox responsible for building LightBox’s next generation client-facing experience.
The LightBox Client Platform is an all-new platform being built with React, Typescript, Node.js and Kubernetes microservices on top of LightBox’s Data Platform for spatial and raster processing, knowledge graphs, search pipelines, persistence layers, and data middleware at scale. Over the next few years, the Client Platform will unify all CRE market participants in a single environment that empowers them to do their best work, to extract deep data insights, and to collaborate with each other and their counterparties.
The ideal candidate for this role is an engineering leader who can design elegant architectures and dive into deep technical challenges with their teams, while simultaneously connecting business context to technical solutions, growing the engineers under them, managing budgets and performance, and delivering products on time and on scope.
This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of 3 days in the Carlsbad or Irvine Office and allows 2 days of remote work per week.
What you will do and achieve:
- Lead the creation of a next generation web, mobile and MS Office experience that unifies all LightBox customers on a single platform, starting with new due diligence products and a new workspace for investors and brokers, and then expanding to cover the rest of LightBox’s rich customer base and the CRE market at large.
- Manage an organization of over thirty engineers responsible for building the Client Platform, including hiring, training, and performance management, and ensure that the work products of the team are scalable, secure, follow industry best practices, and align with LightBox’s platform strategy.
- Grow a frontend environment with core components, domain-specific languages (DSLs), and micro-applications that scale not just to LightBox engineering teams but also eventually to provide an ecosystem where third parties can build their own plugins and integration that also leverage the full power of the LightBox Platform.
- Work with senior leadership to translate LightBox’s platform vision and strategy into an actionable roadmap, maintain KPIs to track process, and deliver on-time and on-budget.
- Collaborate with the product management, project management, user experience, market-facing teams, adjacent engineering organizations, etc. to deliver on the LightBox product vision.
- Define standards and practices for development including the software development lifecycle, system architecture, software quality, release management, automation, service design, etc.
- Serve as a mentor for team members, an evangelist of the client platform for other engineering teams and eventually the industry partners, and a translator between engineering and the business, including design sessions, code reviews, technical trainings, etc., as well as presentations of LightBox’s Client Platform for technical and non-technical audiences both internal and external.
- Investigate and resolve technical and non-technical issues, including leading and participating within incident management processes and root cause analyses.
- Advise colleagues and executive stakeholders of technology opportunities that could improve the solutions brought to market.
- Contribute to LightBox’s enterprise strategy as a member of its senior leadership team.
