Retail Associate (2226) Hiring Incentive


Performs varied retail and production duties in a mission-based, “customer first” environment, which includes but are not limited to quality customer assistance and service, sales, stocking, cashier, displays, production (processing donated goods), accepting donations, loss control and services to clients.

Standards of Performance:
  • Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principals of safety for self and others into daily activities. Ensures tools and equipment are in good working order at all times and workforce is trained to use equipment safely. Attends required safety training and participates in emergency drills and exercises. Develops and maintains a clean, safe working environment for self and co-workers and ensures participation in Goodwill safety programs.

  • Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incident of theft or unauthorized possession of company property.

  • Consistently maintains acceptable level of productivity.

  • Requires punctual and regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.

  • Performs job duties in a prompt, thorough and acceptable manner. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes team concept and reflects Goodwill’s mission, philosophy, and core values of respect, excellence and stewardship, and in accordance with Goodwill policies, procedures and generally accepted business practices.

  • Promotes a favorable image and works cooperatively with all organization employees, participants, customers and other persons contacted during the course of performing duties.

  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.

  • Assists customers with selection and purchases, ensuring highest level of “customer first” service.

  • Operates electronic cash register, handles cash, charge and check transactions.

  • Prepares cash drawers and related paperwork as assigned, as well as banking deposits.

  • Receives, prepares, sorts, prices and rotates stock for retail floor and conducts quality control.

  • Operates department equipment and machinery, prepares goods for sale, procession or storage.

  • Performs inventories and tallies.

  • Assists customers with donations, provides receipt. Includes assisting with removal of donations from customer vehicle.

  • Conducts general housekeeping functions, such as vacuuming, sweeping outside areas, dusting, and rest room maintenance.

  • Assists services staff with implementation of work plans and guidelines as established for client programs, as assigned by store or branch manager.

  • Works a variety of shifts including evenings and/or weekends as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team and/or mission.

Education and Experience:
  • Experience that would lend itself to good customer service is highly desirable.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  • Exercise judgment, resourcefulness, ingenuity and initiative.

  • Ability to operate retail equipment, including register, telephone, fax and copy machine.

    Additional Information for Physical Requirements and Environment:

    Medium physical demand level. Throughout the course of the workday handles and moves a large amount of materials around the worksite. Operates cash register and credit card machines, handles money transactions. Provides customer service, and assists customers with unloading small items from their vehicle for donations. Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

    Medium physical demand level. Throughout the course of the workday handles and moves a large amount of materials around the worksite. Ability to push/pull and carry up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Pushes heavy wheeled carts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment with loads weighing up to 250 pounds occasionally. Ability to stand and walk on hard surface floor for extended period of up to 8 hours. Ability to perform repetitive tasks for up to 8 hours. Must be able to work with others in congested areas. Ability to visually inspect merchandise to ensure that quality and product safety guidelines are being met. Ability to observe merchandise presentation, floor layout, safety and security concerns. Reaching (frequently above shoulder level), handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing is a significant part of the job. Kneels, stoops and bends when retrieving or placing items. Capable of hearing and responding to warning devices on equipment, forklifts and trucks. Ability to occasionally climb ladders. Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary to run the operation. Work is performed indoors in a heated space. Occasionally perform work in outside weather conditions.
